It’s nearly time….    01281.jpg

Time…

March 28, 2008

Greetings.

In honor of the newest release in the Star Trek franchise, I have made it a point to watch every single Star Trek film.  Oh, did they bring back memories.    Captain Kirk, DATA, the Enterprise….

It’s hard to say which film is my absolute favorite, however there is one line from Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart, in Star Trek Generations that really hit home.

Here’s the quote…

“Someone once told me that “time” was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived….”

So, I raise a glass of Chateau Picard and dedicate this photo to the crew of the Enterprise.

ENJOY.

Portraits of Preston.

March 28, 2008

Greetings.

Today’s blog post is, well, a little overdue.  I am “spring cleaning” my hard-drives, making some space for other fun photo adventures and then it occurred to me that I never posted any portraits of Mr. Preston Hinson.  As some of you might recall the bridal portraits of his wife Amanda Hinson…(click here.)

Well, Preston, if you’re reading this, my apologies kind sir for not including you.  This post is for you.  And to everyone else, enjoy the photos.

Until next time…I posted some of Amanda and Preston just for fun.

“Work, In Progress.”

March 26, 2008

Greetings.

Ever wonder why you can’t stand your job?  Or why your dreams seem to disappear because of that job?  Or even falling for that one person in the same office as yourself?  Or what about dodging your boss for fear of sexual innuendoes?

Well, last night I had the opportunity to photograph a rehearsal for “Work, In Progress.”  And might I add, that I am very proud of a dear friend of mine, Erin Dalton, for her extreme creativity in lyrical writing.  It is for her and for my momma that I post these photos.

——

Excerpt from the official press release…

Work, In Progress” by Erin Dalton and Michael Miteer, is an original one act musical about dreams and finding hope when you are stuck in an office job that means nothing to you. The production has a full cast, and also includes a thirteen member strong orchestra.

Erin said, “It’s a story of everyday people that are living mundane, nine to five workday lives. The conflict lies in their dreams that have been suppressed by the pressure of keeping a ‘stable’ job. This question is whether or not they will remain in their jobs to retain ‘stability’, or risk it all for the pursuit of what they really want for their lives.”

——–

Spread the word.  “Work, In Progress” starts this Saturday night, 8 pm, at GWU’s Dover Theatre.  And also a special encore performance on Sunday, at 3 pm.

Enjoy the photos!!!

As I have stated earlier, working full time for GWU, has some interesting and random photo requests and this past Wednesday night was my absolute favorite of all time photo request.  And to think I was almost a little groggy on going.

I traveled to Rutherfordton, NC, to capture young kids interacting within the world of Dr. Seuss.  Allow me to explain a little…

In celebration of the creatively inspiring writer, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, random and fun activities focusing on literacy have been taking place all over the country. Gardner-Webb University, in partnership with KidSenses Children’s InterACTIVE Museum, hosted an amazing event for kids called, “Lets Read Together” in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

The event was held at the KidSenses Children’s InterACTIVE Museum and was developed to promote parent involvement in literacy, to encourage children’s literacy skills, and do so while stimulating the imagination and educating the mind.

Lots of hands-on activities happened and I hope the photos below show just a glimpse of the excitement.  There’s a lot to look at.

Hope you enjoy!  Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

New Look and New Site.

March 20, 2008

Good Morning To ALL!

Ah, spring time is almost here, and I cannot waaiiiit, oh no….wait a second….AAAACHHOOO!  Whew, sorry bout that.  Allergies.  Don’t you just love early spring allergies?  In fact, yesterday I had a wasp creep into my office, and I was thinking…”well, dang it’s a little early for you.”  Needless to say, he didn’t last long in here.  Ahem, moving on.

As you may or may not have noticed right off the bat, my blog looks a little different.  I thought, it was time for a fresh change, something in honor of the glorious time of year, Spring Time.  And speaking of fresh change, I’ve got some incredible news.  Joshua Mauldin, the genius behind the design of my website, and I have been communicating and it is time to update/upgrade my website.  I am so excited.  This man is a vintage creative design genius and I am so privileged to have his originality represent my photos.

Thanks for stopping by for a second.  It’s time to post some photos.

GreetingsWorking at  Gardner-Webb University and having an office directly above  88.3 WGWG Studios, definitely has its advantagesFor example, yesterday afternoon was a real treatI was able to meet the amazing, humble, kind spirited Americana Artistthe one and only  TIFT MERRITT.

Tift is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and recording artist, from Raleigh, North CarolinaShe has just released her third studio album, Another Country, released February 26, and that release is what brought her to our little spot on the map.

Tift’s music defies categorizationShe has a unique satisfying stew, or “soup” (as she calls it), of rock and roll, soul, and country.  And she was a real treat to listen to.  Below, are a few images from yesterday.

ENJOY!!!
